What to Expect
- You must not eat, drink, chew gum or smoke after midnight the day before your surgery. Additional instructions may vary according to the surgical procedure and anesthetic used during your surgery.
- Leave all jewelry and other valuables at home.
- Choose loose articles of clothing, such as a front-button blouse or shirt, that will not cause discomfort to the surgical area.
- A friend or relative should accompany you. You will not be allowed to drive or travel by yourself because you may still be feeling the effects of the anesthesia.
- Please report to the Same Day Surgery unit on time so your surgery may begin at the scheduled time.
- Routine tests are done, including: temperature, blood pressure and pulse checks. You will be checked for any recent medical problems and asked to sign a consent form prior to surgery.
- You will change into a gown and be asked to remove jewelry, dentures, glasses or hearing aids.
- A final check is done of your medical history and condition. Sometimes medication is administered to help you relax before the surgery.
- Depending on the procedure, local anesthesia (which numbs a specific part of the body) or general anesthesia (which puts you to sleep) is used.
- Your surgery is performed in an operating suite.
- You may go to the recovery room following your surgery. Nursing staff will check your temperature, pulse and blood pressure frequently.
- 游客 are limited to two per patient room. Children under the age of 12 are not advised to be in patient rooms.
- Home care instructions for your recovery will be provided by your physician and the Same Day Surgery staff. Please listen carefully and ask questions about anything you do not understand.
